e-MERLIN

e-MERLIN Time Awards

e-MERLIN is operated by the University of Manchester as a National Facility of the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC), and is available for use on a peer-review basis, with observing proposals dealt with by the Panel for Allocation of Telescope Time (PATT). During the first 5 semesters of e-MERLIN operations ~50% of observing time has been allocated to 12 large legacy projects and most of the remaining time will be allocated via PATT to standard proposals solicited prior to each observing semester.

Semester 12A Observations (e-MERLIN Cycle-0) Deadline for Receipt of Proposals - 23:59:59 UT on 26th January 2012

Shared-risk 'Cycle-0' observations started in February 2012, with some limitations in observing capabilities. Some commissioning and development work may still take place. Shared risk observations will be carried out on a best-effort basis, but essential system work will take priority over PATT observations. The continuum bandwidth at C-band is currently limited to 512MHz. The full 2GHz bandwidth will not become available until a later semester.

Time was awarded in the following categories:

A: Higher priority -- No commitment is given to complete observations in this category although most are likely to be observed. (Lo) means that the Lovell telescope may be included.

B: Lower priority -- No commitment is given to complete observations in this category although substantial numbers are likely to be observed. For certain projects, this may include observations with a subset of the MERLIN array.

Targets of Opportunity: Observations are not guaranteed, but in the past all or almost all of the observations in this category are usually completed, if triggered.
